The Department and Faculty
Our Department of Computer Science (CS) has grown rapidly in reputation, quality, and size, becoming a major force in computing research and education in Virginia. The faculty size has doubled in the past five years, with more than 80 members. Faculty members conduct cutting-edge research across the full discipline of CS, including in cybersecurity, machine learning, robotics, artificial intelligence, software engineering, data mining, computer vision, natural language processing, networking, immersive computing, human-computer interaction, and bioinformatics.
George Mason's Computer Science is currently ranked #33 in the nation according to CSRankings. Our CS community includes over 200 Ph.D. students, nearly 1000 master's students, and over 2,400 undergraduates, making it the largest CS program in Virginia. Our graduates consistently secure prominent positions in academia, industry, government agencies, and research labs.
