About

Thank you for visiting the Computer Science Department at George Mason University website. Whether you are a current or prospective student faculty member or one of our outstanding alumni, you are welcome to visit and see for yourself all the great things happening in CS at George Mason!

We are the largest department in the College of Engineering and Computing, one of the largest departments on campus, and the largest, fastest-growing, and highest-ranked computer science department in Virginia. The department has a world-class faculty with research strengths in all areas of computing and a strong commitment to teaching. Our faculty has authored widely used textbooks and software, and they have received numerous awards and recognitions, including 28 recipients of NSF CAREER and AFOSR Young Investigator awards, three ACM Fellows, and six IEEE Fellows.

The department offers two Bachelor of Science programs with a total enrollment of over 2400 students, including a "CS+X" program, the BS Applied Computer Science. At the graduate level, we offer a PhD program that currently numbers over 200 students, and three Masters programs serving over 1100 students. We also offer a Graduate Certificate on the Foundations of Computing that provides a pathway to our master's program for students whose undergraduate degree is in a field other than computing.

Finally, George Mason is the largest and most diverse university in Virginia and among the fastest-growing public universities in the nation. Correspondingly, the department is committed to the vision of inclusiveness and accessibility and efforts that increase the representation of women and underrepresented minority groups in our programs and in computing at large.

Sincerely,
