The Department of Computer Science at George Mason University has grown into the largest and fastest-growing department within the College of Engineering and Computing, recognized as one of the highest-ranked computer science program in Virginia.
Our Mission
Guided by the commitment to “Computing for All,” our department offers a full spectrum of programs the emphasize accessibility and innovation in computing education to welcome students from all academic backgrounds and levels of experience. We work to expand our reach, equip our students with computational literacy, and meet the urgent workforce needs of the region, particularly in light of large-scale tech initiatives.
As the cornerstone of the Long Nguyen and Kimmy Duong School of Computing, the department continues to grow at an extraordinary pace, with more than 80 full-time faculty, over 2,200 undergraduates, around 1,000 master’s students across four programs, and nearly 200 doctoral candidates. We remain dedicated to advancing research and education, preparing students for leadership in a rapidly evolving technological world, and contributing to the vitality of the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. region.
